Finding Fitness (Again)
The last time I took an extended break from running due to injury was during my junior year of college when I had arthroscopic knee surgery.  It has been 4 years since I have taken more than 2 weeks off at a time from doing the sport I love.  While having to take time off from anything you love is difficult, I believe that when you get back to doing what you love you find a new appreciation for...

Zensah Compression Sleeve →
I’ve been wearing the Zensah Compression Sleeve quite a bit since the pain in my leg escalated.  The purpose of wearing the sleeve is to help promote blood circulation in my leg.  Increased blood circulation means that oxygen can get to the muscles faster, which helps speed recovery.  I have found that when I wear the sleeve overnight my leg feels better and the muscles feel nice and...

Tibia Update / Project Get Swole
Over the last week and a half I have developed an increasing amount of pain in my left leg/foot/ankle and felt it was time to take action before it got any worse.  Yesterday I went to Arthritis & Sports in Sterling, VA to do just that.  The crew here has helped me out in the past and does a wonderful job keeping my Mom’s knees working the best they can. After getting x-rays taken I met...

Race Report – Athens Twilight 5k/Mile
The 2010 edition of Athens, GA Twilight was filled with rain and wind provided by a nearby tropical storm, and smaller crowds than the usual 30,000 that are expected to line the streets of the downtown. Even though the weather was less than optimal people were still in good spirits and having a great time. My day began with a stop to Jittery Joe’s for pre-race coffee and then I headed...

Nike Lunarfly+ Review
The Nike Lunarfly+ ($80 retail) is a mashup of two shoes and Lunar technology all in one.  First off, the seamless upper is modeled off the Zoom Hayward.  The sole is a blend of the Avant with Lunar foam.  Mix these ingredients all together and you have a flexible, soft, and lightweight trainer. Right after I slipped these on I knew Nike had accomplished a great combo.  These shoes felt...

Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap with TapScreen
Behold, the new tap screen watch from Timex.  This is my permanent time piece for runs and has replaced the Garmin FR60.  I decided to swap out watches because I really needed to get back to the basics and keep it simple.  Most of my regular runs and workouts are time based vs. specific mileage.  The Garmin was an excellent, accurate, and feature loaded watch that I do recommend to anyone...

CIA Excursion Route
Yesterday Dave and I headed out for a 2 hour trail run along the Potomac River.  We started in Arlington and ended up very close to CIA HQ in Langley, VA.  Along the route we encountered some expert level trails.  One of the trails literally had hand rails drilled into rock so that you could pull yourself up.  A little ways into one trail we discovered a hashers’ trail from earlier in the...

JMHS Warhawk 5k
This morning I competed in the 5th annual James Madison High School Warhawk 5k in Vienna, VA.  I found out about the race through a co-worker who has kids that attend the school.  Frank and Will came out on their bikes to ride along and take pictures.  My main goals going into the race were to have fun and get in a solid workout.  I believe that I accomplished both of those today.  The course...
